Indo-Pacific Record

Official defense and security texts, preserved as published and analyzed in context.

Collection is current; analysis is behind it. Records dated after 2026-08-24 are stored and awaiting screening. What these dates mean.

Desks

A desk is a declared collection scope: one jurisdiction or institutional family, with its own sources, its own coverage record, and its own limits. A desk appears here as soon as its scope is declared, and is labeled according to what it actually does.

4 declared · 1 collecting into the record · 3 not collecting. Statuses and source counts come from the desk registry and the manifests it points at; record counts come from the corpus, and only a collecting desk has one.

Live — collecting

China Desk

Chinese official and state-linked defense publication surfaces: the armed forces newspaper, the defense ministry, the state news agency's military desk, and two English-language portals.

Collecting daily into the production corpus. This is the only mature collection in the project.

Shadow evaluation — not public

Singapore Desk

One publication family: official releases from the Singapore Ministry of Defence, which publishes for itself and for the Singapore Armed Forces.

Under shadow evaluation. It collects into an isolated state branch that reaches neither the production database nor the published site, renders no records, and is counted nowhere. A shadow desk is not a qualified desk.

Shadow evaluation — not public

Japan Desk

Two official Japanese-language RSS feeds published by the Ministry of Defense: its news stream and its site-update stream. Not an English press-release source, and not the Joint Staff, neither of which either feed carries.

Shadow testing, scheduled daily and publishing nothing. RSS discovery works: two official Japanese-language ministry feeds answer normally and support conditional requests. Body retrieval is partial. Documents published as PDF are served and are collected in full; documents published as HTML are returned behind an interactive challenge and are kept as titled, dated discovery records with no body text and nothing inferred. Measured across the news feed on 2026-08-26, 8 of 142 items (6 percent) carried full text and 134 of 142 (94 percent) did not. That is partial retrieval, not coverage, and it does not establish complete Ministry of Defense or Joint Staff coverage.

Access blocked — not collecting

US Indo-Pacific Reference Desk

Declared as a reference desk, deliberately bounded: the minimum US institutional output needed to read other desks' framing against a US framing of the same events. It is not a feed of US defense releases.

Declared scope only, and access-blocked at the edge. Probed once per endpoint on 2026-08-26 with the project user agent: the site root, the Press Releases and Readouts listing, and robots.txt itself all return HTTP 403 from the edge. An RSS endpoint does answer, but robots.txt cannot be read, so there is no basis on which to say collection is permitted. Collecting only through the one endpoint that happens to answer, while the same edge refuses everything else including the file that would state the rules, would be opportunistic rather than honest.

What a status means

StatusMeaning
Live — collecting Sources are enabled and a scheduled run collects into the record. Only these desks have record counts.
Shadow evaluation — not public Collecting privately into an isolated state, under evaluation. It reaches neither the corpus nor the site, is counted nowhere, and is not qualified.
Access blocked — not collecting Researched and reachable in principle, but the institution's discovery surface is not available to an honestly identified collector. Nothing has been collected.
Researched — not yet collecting The source universe is documented; no collector has been built and no source is enabled.
Planned — nothing collected Scope declared, nothing researched, configured, enabled or collected.
Paused — collection stopped Configured and deliberately stopped. Its existing records stay in the record; nothing new arrives.

A desk that does not collect shows no record count at all. Zero would say the record was checked and found empty; the truth is that no record exists to check.
