BEIJING, Nov. 06 -- "Today, Japanese right-wing forces have cast aside the facade of the "exclusively defense-oriented policy" and are reactivating the military-industrial complex, accelerating efforts to put Japanese society on a war footing and militarize the economy," said Senior Colonel Chen Xi, spokesperson for China's defense ministry, at a regular press briefing on Friday. He also added that this poses systemic risks to the safety and well-being of the Japanese people, as well as to global peace and stability. Chen made the remarks while answering media question about Japanese government's plan to include a "virtuous cycle between defense and the economy" as one of the key pillars in its annual revision of the three security documents. He first pointed out that it is a smokescreen used by Japan's ruling authorities to accelerate their drive toward "remilitarization" under the guise of the so-called strategy of "building the country through military-industrial development." Before World War II, Japan's military-industrial complex was deeply embedded in the country's economy, held national decision-making hostage, and underpinned military expansion, becoming a major force driving Japan's aggression abroad. At the end of his remarks, the spokesperson said that the international community must remain highly vigilant and resolutely thwart Japan's attempts to restart its "war machine" and embark once again on the disastrous path of expansionism, jointly safeguarding the postwar international order.
