By Qi Pengfei, Qu Fatong, Zhao Qinghuan and Huang Bixiang BEIJING, Nov. 5 -- A medal parade ceremony for the 24th Chinese peacekeeping contingent to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was held at the Chinese peacekeepers' camp in Hanniyah village in southern Lebanon, on November 3, 2026. All 464 members of the contingent were awarded UN medals of peace. Major General Diodato Abagnara, Force Commander of UNIFIL, and Chen Chuandong, Chinese ambassador to Lebanon, attended the ceremony alongside guests from various sectors. The UN Medal of Peace is the highest honor awarded by the United Nations to peacekeepers, bearing the words "IN THE SERVICE OF PEACE" in bas-relief. Over the past year since deploying to the mission area, the Chinese peacekeeping contingent has actively carried out missions including unexploded ordnance (UXO) detection and clearance, route clearance, and emergency medical support. Through professional and dependable performance, they have fulfilled peacekeeping missions and contributed Chinese strength to safeguarding local peace and stability. (Video Editor: Yang Xueqing)
