Summary
Machine summaryThe PLA Navy hospital ship Daishandao (大山岛, 'Auspicious Ark') departed Conakry on October 11 after a seven-day stop as part of Mission Harmony-2026, during which its medical teams performed cataract surgeries and lipoma removals aboard ship, conducted academic exchanges at the China-Guinea Friendship Hospital, and ran a medical outreach at a Guinean military camp. Guinean Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah and the ministers of defense and foreign affairs all boarded the vessel, a level of host-government engagement that documents the mission's function as a platform for military-to-military and head-of-government access alongside its humanitarian role. Mission Harmony deployments follow a well-established pattern of using medical diplomacy to build defense relationships in Africa; this stop extends that record to Guinea without indicating any change in the mission's scope or posture.
