(Photo by Zhang Xuhao) ABYEI, Sept. 2 -- The 3rd Chinese peacekeeping quick reaction force to Abyei recently completed an armed escort mission for the French Ambassador to South Sudan during his visit to the Abyei. Abyei is a disputed region between Sudan and South Sudan. With numerous armed factions, recurring sporadic conflicts and harsh natural conditions, it is one of the most dangerous UN peacekeeping mission areas. The visit by the French Ambassador to South Sudan and his delegation was an important diplomatic engagement. Acting on the orders of the Force Commander in the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), the Chinese peacekeeping quick reaction force was tasked with providing armed escort for the visit. During the mission, the Chinese peacekeepers remained on high alert, ensuring the safety of the ambassador and his delegation throughout their scheduled itinerary. Following the mission, foreign officials and senior UNISFA officials spoke highly of the Chinese peacekeeping quick reaction force. The escort unit establishes a security perimeter.
