Mainland criticizes DPP 'all-out defense' campaign in Taiwan

The more the Democratic Progressive Party authorities call for "all-out defense" in Taiwan, the fewer people are willing to fight for them, Jiang Bin, a spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, said on Thursday. Speaking at a regular news conference, Jiang said an increasing number of Taiwan residents have seen through the DPP authorities' attempts to seek "Taiwan independence", provoke confrontation and harm Taiwan. He said more people in Taiwan are standing up to oppose "Taiwan independence" separatist activities. Citing data released by Taiwan's "defense" authorities, Jiang said that as of 2025, more than 4,000 volunteer military personnel had paid hefty breach-of-contract penalties after terminating their service contracts. The total amount of compensation exceeded NT$920 million ($28.7 million), with the highest individual penalty surpassing NT$20 million. Commenting on Taiwan's Han Kuang military exercises, which are scheduled to take place from Aug 5 to 14, Jiang said: "No matter how the DPP authorities conduct the drills, they cannot escape the inevitable fate of the failure of 'Taiwan independence'." He described the DPP authorities' persistent adherence to a separatist "Taiwan independence" stance as the greatest scourge threatening Taiwan society and harming people's livelihoods. Jiang called on people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to work together to uphold national interests, firmly oppose "Taiwan independence" separatism, jointly safeguard peace and stability across the Strait, and promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
