(Photo by Jin Lekang) By Lu Jinfang, Yang Shiwei and Wu Zhongwei JUBA, July 9 -- The 12th Chinese Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) participated in a joint operation drill on responding to displaced persons influx organized by the UNMISS' Juba Field Office. Focusing on the scenario of responding to a large-scale influx of displaced persons, the drill was conducted in two phases: a tabletop exercise and a field exercise, involving more than 280 military, police, and civilian personnel from the Chinese Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion, the UN Police and the Juba tactical command, etc. The Chinese peacekeepers worked in close coordination with the officers of the UN Police and formed police units (FPUs), completing six types of operational drills, including cordon formation deployment, perimeter security cordoning, and the control and temporary accommodation of displaced persons. They successfully handled eight simulated emergency situations, such as rushing at the camp gate, unauthorized entry, and providing medical assistance to refugees.
