Summary

Machine summary

The PLA Navy hospital ship Jixiang Fangzhou arrived at Tema Port, Ghana's largest port, on October 23 as part of the Harmonious Mission-2026 (和谐使命-2026) tasking, beginning a seven-day visit that includes shipboard medical services, mobile consultation teams (巡诊分队) dispatched ashore, academic exchanges, and a visit to the Tema Naval Base primary school — the first port call by a Chinese Navy hospital ship to Ghana. The visit extends the Harmonious Mission series into West Africa, a region where previous iterations concentrated on Southeast Asia, the Pacific, and East Africa, documenting a geographic expansion of the PLA Navy's soft-power medical diplomacy footprint. What remains unknown is whether Tema will become a recurring stop or whether this inaugural call is opportunistic within a broader multi-country itinerary.
