Summary

Machine summary

The opening ceremony for 'Karakoram-2026,' the first-ever China-Pakistan army joint training exercise, was held October 14 at a training base in the Korla area of Xinjiang; the Chinese detachment is drawn from a regiment of the Xinjiang Military District and includes armor, unmanned systems, firepower, intelligence, engineering, and medical support elements. The exercise focuses on 联合反恐清剿行动 (joint counterterrorism clearance operations) in high-altitude terrain, with planned training in UAV operation, movement-based target-search shooting, long-range sniping, and a joint command post for command-and-control exercises running through late October. The Xinjiang Military District sourcing and high-altitude counterterrorism framing fits the pattern of PLA exercises designed to address shared border-security concerns with Pakistan, though the article does not specify which Pakistani units are participating or at what scale.
