Summary

Machine summary

The Chinese Navy's 48th Escort Task Force — comprising the guided-missile destroyer Tangshan, the guided-missile frigate Daqing, and the replenishment ship Taihu — arrived at Yangon Port on September 24 for a five-day port call, the task force's first stop after completing Gulf of Aden escort duties. The visit fits the PLA Navy's established pattern of pairing escort rotations with port diplomacy in Southeast Asia, using the same ships and ceremonial format documented in prior escort task force visits. The planned calls on Myanmar military and government leaders extend a bilateral military relationship that has continued despite Western pressure on Naypyidaw following the 2021 coup, though what specific topics the task force commander will raise remains unreported.
